Why did we move to all-digital TV?

There has been a lot of changes happening in the TV world. Earlier it was all about analog TV signals. However, in the year 2009, there was a switch from the analog to the digital TV. In the US, more than 90 percent of the broadcast stations already broadcast both the analog as well as the digital stations. This switch has brought a lot of benefits as well as downside. The digital signals are known to be making use of a wireless spectrum in a much efficient manner than it was in the analog signals. Hence this was one of the reasons why the government had planned to make this switch a mandatory one. For the viewers of OTA TV, this switch has brought along various benefits.

Few of the benefits due to this switch include, getting better quality picture and sound, more content with sharp pictures. With the use of analog signals, the broadcasters were only able to transmit just one content channel at a time. But with the coming of digital signals, the broadcasters can now transmit more number of channels at the same time. This has led to more number of broadcasters launching three to four digital channels separately. Each of those programs are known to carry the interest of various audience. Due to the switch there has been more bandwidth made available hence it has given benefit to broadcasters to transmit few of the channels in high-definition format.

Viewers who already have a high-definition TV at home would be also able to view some of the HD channels absolutely free of cost. Few of the major networking broadcast include, Fox, ABC and CBS. They are said to transmit shows over the air in full HD format. Hence for a viewer this is a good deal since they are able to view HD channels without paying anything extra.

For an average consumer, the switch from analog to digital would means better sound and picture quality. The analog signal is known to suffer from degradation. The same case would not occur with digital signals. Do you remember those old days when your favourite shows would start to drift in and out in terms of video and audio. They would start to appear snowy. This would no longer be the case with digital transition. The transition from analog to digital has also made the movie viewing experience better. It means that the movies which are being broadcasted can now appear to the viewers in its original widescreen format. Otherwise earlier they would cut down so as to fit the size of the TV screen.

Digital signals are also able to carry more content than the analog signal hence there is more sound and video option travelling to the end user on their TV set. DTV is known to offer its viewers with multiple programming options along with interactive capabilities. One main reason for which the switch happened was to free up the valuable portions in the broadcast spectrum. This portion can then be used for many other purposes such as, wireless services which are advanced for public services.
